ONBOARD Crystal Serenity: Crystal Cruises Silver Celebration World Cruise on Crystal Serenity ~ January 14 – May 4, 2015 (108 Days) … join us!

Crystal World Cruise diary for Jan 16, 17 and part of the 18th …

Aboard Crystal Serenity, the days seem to melt away with pampering, activities and of course food and drinks! It’s hard to believe that today is Sunday, January 18th, and three full days have already passed since boarding last Wednesday.

Much of first couple of days was spent unpacking and organizing our belongings in our cabin to make it feel like our “home” for the next four months. But, now, by Sunday, it already feels like our private retreat where we can relax when not out and about.

The first full day at sea, Pinky, John and I attended advanced bridge lessons in the morning, while Mike enjoyed the lecturer’s speeches. Lunch in the dining room followed, before it was time for duplicate bridge.

The bridge room was packed with fifteen full tables of competitors anxiously awaiting the start of the game. Pinky and I were partners; while John asked the bridge leader to pair him with someone who played at his advanced level.  I’m happy and proud to say we all came in a very high second place. However, Pinky and I who had a 68% game (that’s very, very good for those of you who aren’t familiar with bride scores) were nosed out of first by a couple who had each won the national bridge championship and played together weekly. So, in my book, we were really first in our league of play!  After all, our level would be like a high school basketball team competing against a National Champion NBA team.

Back to the suite for hors d’oeurves and a cocktail while we watched the sunset from our balcony, before changing for dinner. Too tired to go to the show after our evening meal, so retired to bed.

The following day, another full day at sea was almost a carbon copy of the delightful previous day. However, the bridge scores were not only less than the day before but downright pathetic!   Wonder if it could have been too much complimentary wine at dinner the night before!?!

The evening entertainment was “A Tribute to Billy Joel” show that had all of the trappings of a Broadway production.  The Israel’s had seen it in New York and declared it just as good! One of the many things that sets Crystal apart is the quality of their nightly entertainment.

Today, Sunday, January 18th, we are in port in Santo Domingo. All four of us opted for leisurely day onboard versus getting off to tour, except Pinky who went to a Pilate’s class onboard this morning.

Think you can’t get your spouse on a cruise during football season? Think again! Crystal Serenity had a solution for that … they are showing both of Super Bowl qualifying playoff games on the big screen.
