World Cruise aboard the Crystal Serenity sails away from Miami

ONBOARD Crystal Serenity:

Our first day

At the Miami pier

We spent the morning unpacking and organizing the cabin, with the unpleasant discovery that Mike’s electric razor, electric toothbrush, and the charger for both of our toothbrushes was still on the bathroom counter at home. Thank goodness, full world cruisers had boarded one day before other passengers, and we were still docked in Miami!

Mike grabbed a taxi, and was taken to the closest Walgreen’s to purchase the forgotten items. He wisely asked the taxi driver to wait for him while he ran inside. Not all parts of Miami, like all cities, are very tourist friendly. So being cautious he opted to pay the taxi driver to wait rather than saving a few dollars and getting stuck without a ride. That’s a good tip for all visitors to any city worldwide!

Lunch time and we opted to go to the dining room along with our best friends and traveling companions, John and Pinky. What a delight to find the menu, not only filled with appetizers, salads, sandwiches and other entrees but also, a separate section for the “health conscious” traveler, consisting of dishes with lower sodium, lower fat, fewer calories and prepared without frying or bread.

We opted for the seafood platter from the lighter menu and were pleasantly surprised by the delicious taste of every item. Who knew you could make food taste so good and be healthy too?!? Ok, we did stray a bit and enjoyed two glasses of wine with lunch, but we can’t be good all the time.

The afternoon sped by with a life boat drill, and exploring this beautiful ship. Soon, our butler was serving afternoon hors d’oeuvres, and yes, a cocktail, on our private balcony of our Penthouse Suite. Ah, Miami at sunset is beautiful and so is life onboard Crystal Serenity!

After, changing we met our friends in Palm Court to watch the sail away, listen to the orchestra and observe some of our fellow cruisers dancing. No dance partner? No problem! Crystal has dance gentlemen hosts who twirl you around the floor.

IMG_0329Dinner in the dining room at a beautiful window table for the four of us was next. Fresh mahi mahi was one of many items we opted to dine upon. We laughed, joked and had a wonderful end to a long day before finishing dinner and retiring to our Penthouse Suites and the most comfortable mattresses and pillows on the high seas!

We sailed away from Miami last night, on our way after a lovely send off.

There is nothing like being at sea. My favorite spot is aft, it is mesmerizing watching the waves as the ship slides effortlessly through the deep blue sea. My thoughts are to relax and dream about all of the exciting things to do this week end.
