If you are considering an inaugural cruise, Cruises-N-More offers 7 reasons why it’s a great idea:

  1.  Mix and Celebrate With The Rich and Famous.  Elaborate christening ceremonies with esteemed guests from all over the world are often a part of a ship’s inauguration. Also, a new ship may be cause for local celebrations in ports all along the voyage, with festivities in several cities during the course of theitinerary.
  2. Encapsulated Memories and Mementos. When Cunard‘s Queen Mary 2 launched, she offered “Limited Edition” QM2 commemorative items, including t-shirts, playing cards, cups and saucers, stamps, baseball caps and key chains… and even painted ostrich eggs! These small souvenirs make lovely collector’s items and are a tangible token of the voyage.
  3. Unique Pricing. Some maiden voyages offer pricing on an itinerary that will see a much higher cost in the future. This is because cruise lines are eager to put their best foot forward, and getting people to book, and generate good word of mouth about an inaugural sailing, is a trade-off the lines are happy to make.
  4. Members-Only Club. There are some serious bragging rights that go along with being on the chosen few who are able to say, “I was on the maiden voyage of that beautiful ship”.
  5. The White-Glove Treatment. Inaugural passengers may receive extra special food options, entertainment and activities, and take advantage perks that may not exist on future sailings. This is all done to get public buzz going on the ship.
  6. Squeaky Clean and Sparkling. On an inaugural cruise, every part of the ship is in perfect, brand new condition – the rooms are pristine, the carpets spotless, and every dish, sheet and towel has never been used. There’s something very pleasant about being among the first to use all the facilities and amenities.
  7. Flexibility in Service. As shipboard routines are being established, the ship’s staff tends to be more flexible with things like menu options, seating and on-board activities.  It’s a wonderful time to take advantage of more options than might be available on later sailings.
