5 Reasons to Cruise Holland America Line for the Dining Experience

Celebrating 18 Years Providing Expert Cruise and Travel Planning, Family-Owned and -Operated Cruises-N-More Offers Trusted Expertise and Superior Deals, Prices & Amenities

ORLANDO, Fla. (April 21, 2017) – Cruisers who include an excellent dining experience in their must-have list of preferences will not be disappointed when sailing with Holland America Line, according to Cruises-N-More cruise specialists.

World-class celebrity chefs offer a variety of global traditions and diverse culinary interests that are reflected in the cuisine, and they are continually adding inspired new signature dishes to Holland America menus that will prove to be a highlight of your cruise.

Guests can explore a range of delicious onboard dining options; everything from a burger and fries by the Lido Pool, to the Pan-Asian flavors of Tamarind, to the ultimate in refined and luxurious dining at the Pinnacle Grill.

Here are 5 reasons Holland America Line has great dining options:

1. As You Wish® Dining

Flexibility is the hallmark of Holland America Line’s As You Wish® dining program. In the main Dining Room, it’s your choice of a traditional pre-set seating and dining time or a flexible open schedule.

One level of the two-tiered restaurant offers  a flexible/open dining service from 5:15 to 9 p.m. daily, and the other hosts two seatings, an early seating at 5:45 p.m. and main seating at 8 p.m. Pre-set dining times are subject to change based on itinerary. Guests who select flexible open seating may make reservations daily during a cruise up to 4 p.m. or simply walk up anytime during dining hours.

2.  Global Culinary Excellence

With the collective experience, passion and creativity of world-class celebrity chefs, the Holland America Line Culinary Council® brings global influence and expertise to dining venues across Holland America. The executive chefs are members of the prestigious Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, an international food and wine society.

Rudi Sodamin

Holland America Line’s Master Chef and Culinary Council Chairman, Chef Rudi was born in Austria and trained in France. His innovative approach has made him the most decorated chef on the world’s oceans.

Jonnie Boer

Dutch-born Chef Jonnie is the driving force behind De Librije, a regional, fine-dining restaurant. Recognized as one of “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants,” De Librije has earned a three-star Michelin rating every year since 2004.

David Burke

A leading pioneer of contemporary American cuisine, Chef David is a restaurateur, cookbook author, inventor (a dry-aging process for meat) and consultant at ESquared Hospitality. He trained at the Culinary Institute of America and has been featured on Iron Chef America and Top Chef Masters.

Elizabeth Falkner

Chef Elizabeth earned accolades for her ground-breaking San Francisco shop, Citizen Cake. A frequent judge and competitor on the Food Network, she won first place in the World Pizza Championships in Naples, one of Italy’s most prestigious pizza competitions.

Jacques Torres

Known as “Mr. Chocolate,” French-trained Master Chef and artisan chocolatier Jacques is a James Beard award winner. After rising to executive pastry chef at New York’s legendary Le Cirque, he opened a chocolate factory and stores throughout New York.

3.  HAL Dining Room and Restaurants

Main Dining Room

For breakfast, lunch or an unforgettable five-course dinner, the elegant main Dining Room is your destination for sophisticated dining, with menu selections from classic favorites to vegetarian options, to dishes inspired by the regions you’ll visit.

Pinnacle Grill

Enjoy dishes inspired by America’s Pacific Northwest, such as king salmon from Alaska and choice, responsibly raised beef from Washington State’s Double R Ranch. Complement your meal with a selection of boutique wines from the Pacific Northwest and other celebrated vineyards from around the world.

This authentic Italian restaurant offers a menu that celebrates spartire (Italian for “sharing”). Try Braised Chicken Cacciatore “al Forno,” Branzino ai Ferri or a classic Italian pasta: spaghetti pomodoro or garlic shrimp-infused ravioli, perhaps. Buon appetito!

Tamarind delights with exotic menus evoking the culinary traditions of Southeast Asia, China and Japan. Menus created by Master Chef Rudi Sodamin feature dishes honoring the elements of water, wood, fire and earth. Praised by Condé Nast Traveler for cuisine “that rivals the top restaurants on land.”

Sel de Mer

Sel de Mer (“sea salt,” in French) is an intimate seafood brasserie offering a contemporary twist on French seafood classics, with à la carte dishes ranging from fresh oysters to salt-crusted whole fish to bouillabaisse.

Dinner at the Culinary Arts Center

In the evening, the Culinary Arts Center transforms into a new dinner concept, an immersive farm-to-table experience where master chefs prepare simple, artisanal dishes in full view of the diners.

Grand Dutch Cafe

Inspired by Dutch heritage and complemented with blue-and-white Delftware, the Grand Dutch Cafe is the perfect place to enjoy a fine pint of lager or your favorite coffee drink, along with a traditional savory Dutch snack.

Lido Market

Lido Market provides a fresh, new approach to casual dining for breakfast, lunch or dinner, with a panoramic view of the sea. A modern marketplace with different themed stations, the Lido offers a curated selection of delicious options to grab on the go or to have quickly made to order.

Dive in to a grilled burger on brioche or a Nathan’s Famous gourmet hot dog. For alfresco dining by the pool, Dive-In has it all, including lighter fare like grilled chicken breast sandwich and vegetarian-friendly portabella mushroom stack.

New York Pizza

Served up poolside: crisp Italian salads and personal pan pizzas made with a thin crust and a sauce so savory it does New York-style pizza proud.

4.  24-Hour In-Room Dining

Sleep in and have breakfast delivered. Enjoy an early dinner on your verandah before an evening excursion. Order a salad, sandwich or entrée any time.

5.  Tea Time

On port days relax at Tea Time. On sea days attend a High Tea Dance, featuring live music and traditional fare.

Please note that dining venues vary by ship. A nominal fee is charged for lunch and/or dinner in the Pinnacle Grill and Canaletto and dinner at Tamarind, Sel de Mer and in the Culinary Arts Center.
