11 Reasons Alaska Cruise With Princess is the Ultimate Girls’ Trip
Looking for a vacation that combines luxury, adventure, and some serious girl time? That’s exactly what my sister-in-law and I were after when we booked a 7-day Alaska cruise aboard the Discovery Princess. What we found was so much more—a floating resort, wellness retreat, gourmet dining experiences, and thrilling outdoor adventure, all rolled into one unforgettable journey. It turned out to be the perfect girls’ getaway, and here’s why.
#1 Setting Sail: Kicking Things Off in Style from Seattle
We couldn’t have asked for a more energetic start. The moment we boarded; we were swept into the excitement of the Sail Away party on the Lido Deck. Picture music pumping, line dancing, and passengers all vibing with anticipation. It felt like a celebration of family, friendship, and freedom—the best way to launch our escape from everyday life.
#2 Our Cozy Home at Sea
Our stateroom was exactly what we needed: comfy twin beds, plenty of storage, and a roomy bathroom. But the star feature? Our private balcony. Sipping coffee each morning while watching the Alaskan wilderness pass by was pure magic. It became our little ritual and gave us a front-row seat to nature’s grandeur.

#3 Spa Bliss at Sea
No girls’ trip is complete without a little pampering. The Lotus Spa on board offered just that and more. We splurged on massages, facials, and even hit the salon to freshen up before dinner. The Enclave—a luxurious thermal suite—was the ultimate unwind zone, complete with heated stone beds, a hydrotherapy pool, and steam rooms. It was the self-care indulgence we didn’t know we needed.
#4 The Sanctuary: Quiet Luxury with a View
We booked a half-day at The Sanctuary, Princess’s adults-only retreat, while cruising through Glacier Bay National Park. Wrapped in blankets, sipping drinks, and listening to the Park Ranger’s commentary as we passed ancient glaciers—this was serenity at its finest. It was chilly but unforgettable, and the views were surreal.
#5 Do It Your Way: Total Flexibility
One thing we loved most was the freedom to shape each day how we wanted. While my sister-in-law was up early for Pilates and stretch classes at the gym, I opted to sleep in and meet her later for a leisurely breakfast at the World Fresh Marketplace. We met up for shore excursions, spent afternoons poolside or shopping, and capped each night with cocktails and laughter.
#6 Adventures We’ll Never Forget
I’m all about adrenaline, so I talked my sister-in-law into some thrilling excursions. We took a helicopter ride to Denver Glacier for a dog sledding experience (puppies included!) and flew in a floatplane over Misty Fjords. These weren’t just excursions—they were bucket-list moments that brought us closer together and totally wowed us with Alaska’s wild beauty.
#7 Cultural Bites & Local Flavor
Our stop in Juneau included a guided walking tour with some fantastic local eats—dinner at Tracy’s King Crab Shack was a highlight. In Victoria, we sampled Canadian treats like Beaver Tails on a nighttime foodie tour. Exploring the local flavors added a delicious twist to our journey.
#8 Evenings Full of Entertainment
The fun didn’t stop when the sun went down. Each night brought something new: Broadway-style shows, live music, cocktails at buzzing bars, or trying our luck in the casino (where I didn’t win but had a blast anyway). We could go all out or keep it low-key—whatever mood we were in, the ship delivered.
#9 Retail Therapy at Sea
Let’s be honest—no girls’ trip is complete without a little shopping. The onboard stores had everything from designer brands to cute souvenirs. We treated ourselves to some goodies and took advantage of the duty-free deals and onboard specials.
#10 A Culinary Cruise Experience
Food was a huge part of our experience. Discovery Princess had so many included dining options, but we also made reservations at specialty restaurants like Catch by Rudi for fresh seafood, Crown Grill for mouthwatering steaks, and an Italian spot for pasta and wine. We even went all out for the “360 Dining Experience,” a multi-sensory culinary journey through four countries—complete with regional scents and visuals. It was unlike any meal we’ve ever had!
We also took advantage of the Princess Medallion to order snacks and drinks from anywhere on the ship and have them delivered to us—ultimate convenience. One highlight? Room service breakfast on our balcony while sailing through Glacier Bay.
#11 More Than a Vacation—A Connection
This cruise wasn’t just a trip; it was a chance to reconnect, recharge, and truly savor each other’s company. We balanced excitement with downtime, luxury with nature, and came home with memories we’ll treasure forever. If you’re dreaming about the perfect girls’ getaway, I wholeheartedly recommend a Princess Cruise to Alaska. Ours was unforgettable—and we’re already planning the next one. ————————————
