On January 11, 2012, the Silversea Whisper will be docking at Roseau Cruise ship Terminal in the port of Roseau, Dominica. Those on board will have time in port from noon to 7:00 p.m., long enough for a nice visit to this capital city.

Shopping: several times a week, the Old Market Plaza turns into a farmer’s market, where you can find plenty of fruits, vegetables and flowers. Or check out Cocorico, which is reputed to have the best wine selection on the island; they also offer tobacco, Cuban cigars, liquors, and gourmet store with goodies like chocolate, French cheeses, and cold cuts.

Looking for somewhere to dine? Try out Guiyave — this restaurant is located in a West Indian house and has an airy feel. There’s a balcony overlooking the street and it specializes in Creole, a great choice for lunch. Or visit the Crystal Terrance Restaurant and Bar, which focuses on island cuisine. This one’s great for evenings, with an open air bar and a nice selection of local specialties.

There are many tours available in and around (within a 20-minute drive of) the city, including snorkeling, scuba diving, whale watching, Soufriere Sulphur Springs, Wotten Waven Sulphur Spring, Trafalgar Fall, river tubing and The Morne (a viewpoint overlooking Roseau and the Botanical Gardens.)
