Best Private Island and HAL’s Half Moon Cay
The words “Private Island” conjure up thoughts of warm turquoise blue waters, gorgeous scenic beaches with white sand, lush tropical plants and solitude.
For most of us, the closest we will ever get to a private island paradise will be experienced as a port of call on a cruise ship. We love Holland America Cruises Half Moon Cay. For years this one has been named the “Best Private Island.”
Is this private island really just heaven heaven? Maybe……….for sure you will be able to rejuvenate and refresh your body mind and soul.
What to do on a private island for the day?
For those you like shade and cool………..there are misting spots to cool you off……..Complimentary beach umbrellas and other shady spots are available, beachside massages to sooth the senses. Guests who want privacy are invited to visit many of the islands’ more isolated and secluded beaches.
Bird Watchers……….this island is designated a wild bird reserve by The Bahamas National Trust. There are miles of white-sand beaches and unspoiled beauty and is an international sanctuary for bird watching.
For the unforgettable experience…………there are air-conditioned, open-air beach cabanas. These cabanas are available just a few steps from warm, blue, pristine waters. Private butlers magically appear (for a small fee) from nowhere to fill your beverage glass; others prepare hot and chilled appetizers, as well as cool cucumbers to sooth your eyes from the tropical sun. There is also a private oasis cabana with a hot tub, wet bar and more for up to 25 guests (fees apply).
Shoppers…………yes, there are a few island shops and even a post office
Romantics………..there is a small Bahamian chapel available for weddings and vow renewals
Adventure seeking souls……….no worries, snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing on small sailboats and catamarans’ and aqua cycling.
Eco tours with glass bottom boats, deep sea fishing, bike and nature trails. Plus a 1K running course.
For the family
A Stingray Adventure in a natural 700-acre island lagoon where you can feed, swim with and learn about
stingrays from expert guides………Horseback Riding includes a ride through the surf on horses specially trained to swim in the ocean……….a Watercraft Adventure where you may tour the island via personal watercraft
An Aqua Park for kids, complete with a pirate ship, water slide and water cannon
If you are thinking of sailing away this winter, we highly suggest a Holland America Cruise with Half Moon Cay on the itinerary.
