Breaking Ground at Holland America Line’s Base Camp in Alaska
Holland America Line has broken ground on a new “Base Camp” development at the entrance to Alaska’s Denali National Park. Base Camp is part of our ongoing enhancement program at the 60-acre McKinley Chalet Resort, the premier destination hotel in Alaska.
Base Camp will serve as a new gathering area to relax, shop, and dine. The largest building in the development will be the grand two-story 7,800-square-foot restaurant yet to be named.
Those wanting to quench their thirst or listen to live music can visit the Gold Nugget Saloon, home to the “Music of Denali Dinner Theater” that turns into a bar and music venue after the show.
At the center of Base Camp is an amphitheater with a covered performance stage for guests to enjoy a variety of local shows. Base Camp will also feature cozy fire circles to gather around on cool Alaska evenings, outdoor seating for guests who wish to enjoy the scenery, and retail shops offering local handicrafts.
Walking paths in and around Base Camp show off the property’s mountainous landscapes and beautiful setting nestled just across the Nenana River from Denali National Park.
Expected to be complete for the 2016 Alaska cruise season, Base Camp will accompany Holland America Line’s signature Alaska Land+Sea Journeys: three- to seven-night cruises, combined with overland adventures that showcase Denali National Park, the wonder of the Yukon, and many more unforgettable Alaskan locales.
