The Hermitage Museum opens at night for an evening viewing exclusively for Holland America guests. The museum was created by Czarina Catherine the Great in 1764 – her original purchase of 225 canvasses by Dutch and Flemish masters provided the nucleus of today’s collection, which consists of almost three million exhibits and represents many cultures. Today, 353 rooms are filled with masterpieces by Raphael, Titian, Giorgione, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and others.

In the Abandoibarra district of Bilbao, one finds the famous Guggenheim Museum.  Designed by Canadian American architect Frank Gehry, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao building represents groundbreaking 20th-century architecture.

Explore the richest storehouse of art in the world — the magnificent Vatican Museums, including the Pine Cone Courtyard, the Belvedere Courtyard with its legendary statues, the Candelabra Gallery, and the Tapestry and Geographical Map Galleries. Guests will not want to  miss the gilded papal canopy, called the Baldacchino, suspended over the altar where the Pope celebrates mass, created by Bernini in the 17th century.
